There's a reload minigame like Gears of War where, if you tap reload again at just the right time, your gun will be more powerful for the next amount of ammunition you reloaded and you'll skip part of the reload timer.
Weapons have unlimited ammo, but limited magazines to help balance the more powerful ones. The biggest differences are how ammunition and health work. Shooting, jumping, rolling, and stabbing all feel right and very reminiscent of Metal Slug's 2D shooter controls. Just make sure you read the mission description to see if you need to bring C4 to blow a door or a shock grenade to capture a boss.Ĭore gameplay is solid. There are a lot of mission types, but none are complicated. Mission structure is simple - start in a lobby, choose a job from the list, and MOVE OUT! You can move freely throughout a level (rather than being stuck with left to right like Metal Slug) and complete objectives. I had a much better time using my 360 controller.
You can play with a keyboard, but there are a lot of discrete controls you'll need quick access to and it feels very clunky. With the old-school feel, though, comes the old school need for a controller to play. I love the art style, and their animations are very fluid and detailed. If you've never looked into it, they do a very good job of putting a new spin on an old style of game. The World: The Game, so to some of you it may look and feel familiar. It's made by parts of the same team that made Scott Pilgrim vs. It's been out for a couple months, but it doesn't seem to have gotten too much attention here or elsewhere. If you're one of those anti-social types, the game works just as well playing solo because it scales enemy health based on how many players are there.
